horsemanship on chickens
my parents got four chicks, so I decided to document the process of turning chick into a friend
(im not documenting ways how to raise chickens, their food, housing etc.. , „only“ the relationship and behaviour between them and me, which is often overlooked for the benefit of these practical aspects of living with animals, even though those are still necessary for them aswell.)
1 DAY
- they were shy and confused of new environment of course. i didnt tried to touch them nor walking closer towards them, i only lied down in the middle of the garden where they were present with me and i was chilling for a while
2 DAY
- i took little of food (the same food they knew from their previous home) and sat down few metres from them, with my palms open. i was sitting like this for 15/20 minutes. Then Channel came very slowly and carefully, staring at me. firstly, she was taking pieces what fell down, then she ate also few pieces right from my hands.
3 DAY
- i offered food, this time Channel came, was eating from my hands, and Charlote came to have a look too, she ate few pieces from the ground
4 DAY
- when Channel sees me, she walks towars me to look if i have some food for her
- i tried to pet chickens when they went to sleep. i touched them but they were nervous so i stopped
5 DAY
- i offered food – this time Channel Charlote and even Cheryl came. Cheryl was only eating pieces from the ground. Chantal dont want to come for food
6 DAY
- i was petting chickens before sleep, and Chantal started purring when im touching her
7 DAY
- chicks were nervous when i wanted to pet them before sleep, Channel tried to bite me, so i stopped

9 DAY
- all chicks come to me and other people of my household to see us and look for little food from us when we are in the garden
10 DAY
- Chantal is purring
- when chicks go to sleep, they trying to hide under each other to feel more safe. i tried to put my palm over one chickens head and she started falling asleep, which was funny because her body just felt softer and softer and her head started slowly falling down

11 DAY
- all the three chickens are eating from my hands (instead of Chantal, she eats fallen bits from the ground)
12 DAY
- i was woking on my laptop in the garden, Channel came to visit me and flew on the table to see my laptop
- two chickens are purring when im petting them in the evening, Chantal and one another, not sure which one
…
14 DAY
- i went to visit chickens in their house, they were curious, they were walking around me, i was sitting down and Charlote lied under me

- Channel flew on the top of a chair where another person were sitting in the garden

19 DAY
- Channel and one other chicken (probably Charlote) visit me and my laptop on the table im trying to pet chicken outside (not in their house when they are sleeping) and they let me touch their neck and belly very little bit but they dont want to have a bigger stroke when they are outside
- chicks are playing hide and seek with each other
20 DAY
- Channel wanted to fly through a car window to visit my sister sitting inside – unfortunatelly for the chicken she hit the class

- chickens let to little pet themself outside
- chickens playing little fun battles with each other

- chickens following me everywhere where i go in the garden

- i wanted to stroke one chick but i made the move too quick move so she bited me:o
